The Abaco 40 started with a hull form Mark Ellis first proved in a 39-footer built here in 1994. Broad chine flats on a modified deep-V — the kind of bottom that gets on plane at 12 knots and stays comfortable when the water doesn’t cooperate. A single Cummins 670hp. Low-20s cruising speed, close to 30 knots flat out. One propeller, protected by a skeg. Simple to run, easy to maintain.

The salon is mahogany — seven coats of varnish, no frills. Two facing settees, a table between them, Stidd helm chairs forward with good sight lines all around. The galley is on the port side, open to the pilothouse windshield for light and air. Head and shower to starboard. Everything is where it should be because that’s where a sailboat builder puts it — and Bruckmann is, before anything else, a sailboat builder.

The cockpit is large by design. If you want to fish from it or open it up entirely, that’s an option. Twin engine pod drive is also available if you want to push the top speed into the high 30s — but the single-screw version is what most buyers choose, and it’s the one that makes sense for cruising.

The Flybridge configuration adds an elevated helm station above the main cabin — giving the captain commanding sightlines and a cleaner read of the water ahead. Above the roofline, the view changes entirely.
It also creates something the base vessel doesn’t offer: a dedicated open-air deck for guests. A place to sit above the waterline, in the open, while the vessel is underway. On a well-crafted day cruiser, that distinction matters.
