The Bruckmann 42 Cruising Sloop started life as the Niagara 42 — one of the most respected offshore designs of its generation. When Hinterhoeller Yachts closed in 1994, Mark Ellis acquired the moulds and brought them to Mississauga. The boat has been built here ever since, with the same hull and the same conviction about what a serious cruising sloop should do.

She’s 42 feet, 22,000 lbs, with 8,000 lbs of lead ballast hung externally. That’s a stiff, powerful platform — the kind that stands up to wind rather than fighting it. The cutter rig carries 850 square feet and gives you a proper storm sail option when the weather turns. Navtec rod rigging, Harken furling, Yanmar 50hp saildrive. Fast and forgiving, and manageable by a couple without a crew.

The interior is built to your specification. Herreshoff traditional, richly varnished teak and holly, or something in between — every 42 is different below the waterline. That’s been true since the first one came off the floor here, and it’s still true now.
